The California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports awarded The San Diego Union-Tribune the gold medal in the Company of the Year category for supporting physical activity and fitness among children and youth.
The recognition stems from the U-T's leadership role in providing funding, planning, promotion and other support for the annual Union-Tribune Race for Literacy Kids Magic Mile, which benefits The San Diego Council on Literacy.
The award was presented on September 18, 2007 to Community & Public Relations Manager Drew Schlosberg by Governor Schwarzenegger. The recognition is part of the 2nd annual California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Spotlight Awards. Other categories include Principal of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Organization of the Year, Park and Recreation Program of the Year, Event of the Year and School of the Year.
As a gold medalist, the U-T received $10,000 to further promote physical activity in
our communities.
